When artist Kimberly Witham moved to her suburban New Jersey neighborhood several years ago, she began to notice a good amount of roadkill as she drove around town. While most people would simply look away, Kimberly saw the beauty in the animals and began collecting ones she found on the side of the road to create striking still life photographs, composing the birds, squirrels, and other little creatures alongside other objects. The critters are kept in a freezer until she is ready to photograph them, then they get a proper backyard burial when each piece is finished.
Check out this fascinating video from National Geographic about her work…you’ll never look at roadkill the same way again!
