Heartwarming Pictures of Kids Reading to Shelter Cats

Have you heard of the Book Buddies program at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, Pennsylvania? It's a heartwarming story about how this shelter brings together kids, reading, and shelter cats in need of a warm cuddle. The Book Buddies program welcomes kids from grades 1-8 at all reading levels to come to the shelter’s cat adoption room and read to the kitties. It’s a win-win for everyone…the kids improve their reading skills and the cats get valuable socialization which makes them more adoptable.

Interested in learning more about the Book Buddies program, and maybe starting one of your own? Many other organizations have been inspired by this story and have started their own shelter cat reading programs. Check out the original Book Buddies website HERE.

What a fantastic idea! My dog & I are a therapy dog team, we participate in children’s reading programs. This program sounds great, it helps both the child & the animal! Love this.
